Mechanical breakdown insurance repairs in Avondale

Broken down and covered by MBI? Here's how a claim usually works, and where we fit in.

Mechanical breakdown insurance (MBI) can cover the cost of repairing a sudden mechanical or electrical failure. Every insurer has its own claim rules, and most need the fault reported and the repair authorised before any work starts.

Atmiya Auto Center diagnoses mechanical faults, provides the inspection details insurers ask for, and keeps the servicing records most policies require.

How an MBI claim usually works

The exact steps depend on your insurer and policy wording, but most claims follow this order.

  1. Stop driving and report the breakdown

Driving with a known fault can void your cover. Contact your insurer or their roadside service first.

  2. Get the vehicle to a repairer

Your insurer will tell you where the vehicle can be assessed and may arrange towing.

  3. Diagnosis and report

The workshop finds the cause and reports the fault, parts and costs to your insurer. Some insurers need you to agree before parts are dismantled.

  4. Insurer decision

Your insurer approves or declines the claim. Repairs should not start until it's approved.

  5. Repair and collection

Approved work is completed. You pay your excess and anything the policy doesn't cover.

Often covered

Cover depends entirely on your policy level, but MBI is generally designed for:

  • Sudden mechanical breakdowns
  • Electrical component failures
  • Engine and transmission failures named in the policy
  • Labour for approved covered repairs
  • Towing or roadside help on some policies

Often not covered

Policies commonly exclude:

  • Routine servicing and maintenance
  • Normal wear on brakes, clutch and suspension
  • Faults that existed before the policy started
  • Damage from missed servicing or driving with a known fault
  • Repairs started without the insurer's authorisation

Keep your MBI cover valid

Most claims are declined for the same few reasons. A few habits keep your cover working when you need it.

MBI questions

Is MBI the same as a manufacturer's warranty?

No. A manufacturer's warranty comes with a new vehicle. MBI is an insurance policy, often sold with used cars or vehicle finance, with its own cover limits, excesses and claim rules.

Can I take my car to any workshop?

It depends on your insurer. Some only pay authorised repairers or may choose where the vehicle is repaired. Check with your insurer when you report the breakdown.

Do I pay for the diagnosis?

Sometimes. Some insurers cover diagnosis when the claim is approved; others, like Janssen, exclude diagnosis and scanning costs. We'll tell you before we start.

Can servicing at Atmiya keep my policy valid?

Your policy needs servicing at the right intervals by a recognised workshop, with records. We service to your schedule and give you itemised invoices for your records.
